SCRANTON Graveside services for Donald Harold Avery, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Scranton Cemetery with the Rev. Marion Burgess officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by DeSoto Masonic Lodge No. 40 A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Avery died today, Aug. 29, 1991, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Alma, Neb., to Childric L. and Lilly Mae Avery. He grew up in Alma, Neb., and moved to Lawrence 41 years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked at the Hercules Ammunition Plant for 12 years and for the building and grounds department at Kansas University for 10 years, retiring in 1970.
Mr. Avery was a member of the DeSoto Masonic Lodge No. 40, A.F. & A.M., Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lawrence, and the Valley of Orient Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He married Eva M. Jolly on Oct. 6, 1953, in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Kansas Lung Assn., in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
