18-YEAR-OLD STABBED IN FIGHT AT TAVERN

An 18-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen and legs early this morning during a fight at a North Lawrence tavern, Lawrence police reported today.

Officers were called at 2:34 a.m. today to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where the teen-ager had been taken in a private vehicle for treatment.

A press release issued this morning by the police department stated that the victim was injured during fights that involved several people about 1:45 a.m. in the rear parking lot of Los Amigos Saloon, 508 Locust.

When bar employees broke up the crowd, police said, the victim and friends left in a car. The victim later told his friends that he had been stabbed.

The victim's name was not being released this morning.

The press release stated that officers have interviewed several witnesses and now know that the person who stabbed the victim is a Haskell Indian Junior College student. No arrests have been made.

Police stated that the victim underwent surgery for the stab wounds and is recovering.
