— Horst, Terril and Karst Architects, a Topeka firm, was selected this week by the Tonganoxie School Board to design a master plan for dealing with overcrowding problems in the district's schools.

Jacki Himpel, district communications specialist, said the firm most likely will focus on the space crunch at the elementary school.

In other business, the school board:

Granted a request from the Tonganoxie High School Future Homemakers of America chapter for $3,800 to help cover the cost of the parliamentary procedure team's trip to Washington, D.C., for a national competition July 5-12.

Discussed adding soccer as a fall sport, but tabled a decision until the next board meeting.

Gave permission to convert the copy center at the elementary school into office space and convert shower rooms into a new copy center.

Hired Janet Carlson Heinen as assistant junior high school principal and Jerry Daskoski as assistant elementary school principal.

Accepted the resignation of Marie Rhudy, head cook at the junior high school.
