Kansas University basketball fans are invited to a welcome-home celebration at Kansas Memorial Stadium, which will open at noon Tuesday regardless of the outcome of tonight's game matching KU against Duke. The men's basketball team is expected to appear at 1:30 p.m.
The school's administration has not yet determined if classes will be canceled if KU defeats Duke tonight. Del Shankel, executive vice chancellor, said late last week that officials would make their decision when "whatever happens happens."
In addition to campus activities, a parade to honor the Kansas University Jayhawk basketball team is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Lawrence.
The parade, which will feature the team, their coaches and staff, mascots, fans, KU and local dignitaries, is sponsored by the Downtown Lawrence organization and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, said Peggy Johnson, parade organizer.
The staging area for the parade be at Buford Watson Park, Seventh and Kentucky. The parade will start at Seventh and Massachusetts streets and head south on Massachusetts to South Park.
