Three people were injured in an eight-vehicle, chain reaction accident that occurred at about 1 a.m. today about five miles west of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 40, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported. The three people were treated for minor injuries at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released, a highway patrol dispatcher said. The accident occurred on U.S. 40 just east of Douglas County Road 1013 when a car pulled over to the side of the highway, a second car hit it from the rear and six more vehicles following collided in a chain reaction, the dispatcher said. No information was available this morning about the names of those injured, others involved in the accident or the extent of the damage to the vehicles, the dispatcher said.
