More than 4,000 junior high and high school musicians from 57 schools in Kansas and Missouri will visit Lawrence and Kansas University Saturday for KU's 43rd annual Band Day.
Band members will march in a parade through downtown Lawrence at 9 a.m. and perform during halftime of the KU-Oregon State football game at Memorial Stadium.
The KU Marching Jayhawks will lead the parade, followed by the Lawrence High School Lions Marching Band. The musicians will march from the intersection of Seventh and Massachusetts Streets and march to South Park.
Robert Foster, KU band director, and Thomas Stidham, assistant band director, will conduct when the bands play together in the halftime performance, with will include "I'm A Jayhawk," "Let Freedom Ring," the theme from "Ice Castles," "Hot Shot," and "Patriotic Finale," arranged by Foster.
Other area schools participating in KU Band Day will be McLouth High School, Tonganoxie Junior High School, DeSoto High School, Baldwin High School and Perry-Lecompton High School.
