Harris Construction Co. Inc., 3200 Haskell, has purchase a "buildership" in Kansas City, Mo., owned by Butler Manufacturing Co.

"We feel that will expand our business and give us marketing opportunities in the Kansas City area," said Bo Harris, president of Harris Construction.

"Our business is about $20 million a year right now," Harris said. "We're hoping this will lead to a volume increase of about double the size. In a period of about two years it should allow us to do that."

Harris said he purchased the business, but not the plant location.

"We moved the resources of the business to Lenexa, where we already have an office," Harris said.

Harris said Butler Manufacturing Co. solicited bids on the buildership from a number of regional contractors and Harris Construction was selected after a period of negotiations.

Harris said Butler owned the buildership since 1981 and did $104 million in business between 1981 and 1989, or about $12 million to $20 million on average years.
