A 20-year-old Lawrence man was arrested, and a 17-year-old Lawrence boy was detained after the 20-year-old pointed a handgun at a 16-year-old Lawrence boy about 1 a.m. Sunday in the front yard of a residence in the 1600 block of Vermont. Police said the victim and several other teen-agers were approached by the suspects in the yard. The 17-year-old boy and the victim began arguing over a 14-year-old girl who used to date the teen-age suspect. During the argument, police said, the man pointed a gun at the victim's head. Police later found an air pistol in the area that was similar to the gun that witnesses said the 20-year-old man was carrying. The man was arrested for aggravated assault. The victim said he was confronted at the party by an intoxicated man who asked who he was and whether he paid admission. The man then threw him down a flight of six steps. Police did not locate a suspect.

A 21-year-old Lawrence man was arrested for aggravated battery after he cut a 39-year-old Topeka man in a fight at 6:21 p.m. Saturday at the Shenago Lounge, 2907 W. Sixth, police said today. The victim suffered a small cut and needed no medical attention, police said. After the fight, the suspect fled to a room at the Virginia Inn, 2907 W. Sixth, where police tracked him and arrested him.
