Burglaries and thefts reported
A purse, a gold chain, a carrying case and its contents were taken between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Thursday from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of New Hampshire, Lawrence police reported today.
Criminal case proceedings
A diversion agreement has been filed in the case of Ryan S. Barker, 19, 2000 Stewart, who was charged May 14 with a felony count of forgery. Among the terms of the agreement, Barker must pay $67 in restitution and must perform 50 hours of community service work.
Jeremy L. Joseph, 22, 214 Camden Manor, Tuesday pleaded guilty to amended misdemeanor charges of attempted theft and criminal trespassing. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail on the attempted theft charge and 30 days in jail on the trespassing count. Joseph originally was charged Aug. 31 with a misdemeanor count of theft and a felony count of burglary after he allegedly broke into the Jayhawk Bookstore, 1420 Crescent, and took miscellaneous items.
Cyrus A. Free, 22, 809 Ohio, recently was sentenced to three to 10 years imprisonment on an amended felony count of attempted aggravated battery. He originally was charged July 19 with a felony count of aggravated battery after he allegedly severely injured a 36-year-old Lawrence man at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Indiana. Free pleaded no contest Sept. 20 and was found guilty of the amended charge.
