A memorial service for Cecilia Fern Monaghen, 62, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey Funeral Home with the Rev. David Hallenbeck officiating. The body was cremated.
Mrs. Monaghen died Wednesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Broken Bow, Neb. She grew up in the western United States, including California, Oregon and Washington.
She married William K. Monaghen on May 20, 1970, in Reno, Nev. The couple lived in nearly every state in the country because Mr. Monaghen was in the armed services.
They moved to Lawrence in 1985. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Leavenworth. Mrs. Monaghen also served as a volunteer care provider for Trinity Community Services in Lawrence.
Mr. Monaghen survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Donna Collins, Lawrence, and Judy Chevalier, Midway City, Calif.; two sisters, Myrna Church, Stockton, Calif., and Pat Trujillo, Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Trinity Community Services or the VA hospital in Leavenworth.
