Law enforcement report
A Lawrence man in his early 30s was questioned by police after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 4-year-old Lawrence girl at an unknown time in the 100 block of Glenview Dr., Lawrence police reported today. Police spokesman Chris Mulvenon said no arrests were made in connection with the incident, which was reported Nov. 6 by a state Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services worker. Mulvenon said the girl reported to a family member that the man had touched her with his penis. Mulvenon said the man was known to the girl, but would not elaborate. The incident still is under investigation, he said.
Criminal case proceedings
A 28-year-old man Tuesday was ordered to stand trial on felony counts of aggravated kidnapping, rape, aggravated sodomy and aggravated assault stemming from a rape Nov. 1 at a residence in the 700 block of Arkansas. The charges allege that the man lured a woman into the residence by saying he needed help for his mother, who had fallen and could not get up. Once they arrived at the residence, officials said, the man raped the woman at gunpoint, struck her several times and threatened to injure her further. The man was bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing Tuesday. A trial date will be set at a hearing scheduled for Dec. 14.
Debra A. Witt, 35, Eudora, Tuesday pleaded guilty of a felony count of selling methamphetamine and a felony count of not affixing a Kansas drug tax stamp to methamphetamine. Sentencing was scheduled for Dec. 26 for Witt, who originally was charged May 3 with the tax stamp charge and two felony counts of selling methamphetamine. Officials allege that Witt sold the drug Oct. 27 and Oct. 28.
