Hallmark Cards Inc. of Lawrence will contribute $140,000 to this year's United Way of Douglas County campaign, the director of the fund drive said today.
Al Hack, director of the 1990-91 campaign, said Hallmark's contribution is up 18 percent from its total last year of $122,000.
"I think the number of employees at Hallmark is up, but I'd say it's more because of the outstanding effort of the Hallmark employees," Hack said of the increase.
Hallmark's contribution total was announced today at a meeting of the company's 1990-91 campaign officials and United Way officals.
Hack said Hallmark's contribution brings this year's United Way campaign total to about $670,000, or 79.28 percent of the $845,000 goal.
"It looks good right now, but I'm worried that a lot of people may not be sensitive to the calender," he said.
This year's fund drive ends in about two weeks on Nov. 30.
Hack said the most difficult part of the drive will be trying to raise the remaining part of the goal.
"It's going to be a tough thing to do, but I think we can do it," he said.
