A 17-year-old Lawrence boy was detained by police after he allegedly threw bricks from the roof of a building at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 blocks of Massachusetts Street, Lawrence police reported. A police spokesman said a local man saw the boy and two other people throwing bricks from the roof of a building onto his vehicle and two other vehicles, which were parked behind a downtown business. The man caught and detained the boy until police arrived, the spokesman said. Damage to the vehicles, a Toyota, a Toyota pickup and a Honda, was estimated together at $3,500. Police did not arrest or detain other individuals in connection with the incident. A Douglas County sheriff's spokeswoman said the boy was turned over to juvenile authorities.
A 13-year-old Lawrence boy was detained by police after he allegedly entered a 19-year-old Lawrence woman's apartment, grabbed her arm and tried to force her to the ground about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Tennessee Street, Lawrence police reported. A police spokesman said the woman kicked the boy and he ran away. Police later found a boy matching the woman's description in the neighborhood and detained him, the spokesman said. The boy was turned over to juvenile authorities.
Nine people were cited for criminal trespassing between 12:56 a.m. and 2:18 a.m. today at Stull Cemetery, the Douglas County sheriff's office reported. A sheriff's spokeswoman said a sheriff's officer was parked for several hours Wednesday night and early today near the cemetery. The officer issued citations to three people at 12:56 a.m., four people at 1:38 a.m. today, and two people at 2:18 a.m. today, the spokeswoman said. No arrests were made, she said.
Dean Jensen, 20, Overland Park, was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after suffering injuries in an accident at 1 a.m. today on 23rd Street about 200 feet west of Naismith Drive, Lawrence police reported. Jensen was a passenger in a 1982 Toyota driven by Brian Byrnes, 20, Overland Park. Byrnes had turned east onto 23rd street from a driveway when his vehicle collided in the street's median with a 1982 Buick driven west on 23rd by Larry D. Kennedy, 33, 1908 E. 19th. Kennedy was arrested for driving under the influence, and was cited for not having his headlights on and for improper lane use, police reported. Byrnes was cited for not wearing a seatbelt and for not wearing corrective lenses, and Jensen was cited for not wearing a seatbelt, according to reports.
