The Douglas County Commission honored a county employee Wednesday afternoon at an abbreviated commission meeting.
Walter Reed, a custodian at the county courthouse since 1973, was honored by the commission with a proclamation declaring the annual Thanksgiving dinner for county employees as "The Walter Reed Annual Thanksgiving Dinner."
"I don't know what to say," said Reed, who was obviously surprised by the action. "I've enjoyed working with the county employees. Everybody's been good to me."
The commission took the action because Reed's been the driving force behind the annual dinner. The proclamation also read that "through his dedication and generosity to his fellow employees, Walter Reed has been instrumental in building fellowship and good will among the employees of Douglas County."
The Walter Reed Annual Thanksgiving Dinner will be Nov. 9.
