Law enforcement report

Burglaries and thefts reported

Two guitars valued together at $1,050 were taken about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday from an apartment in the 2900 block of West 15th, Lawrence police reported today.

Police reports

An undisclosed amount of merchandise was taken between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 6:20 a.m. Wednesday from Western Auto, 2535 Iowa. Burglars caused an undisclosed amount of damage to glass and displays after they broke into the business.

Injury accidents

Linda Smith, 47, 2533 Ridge Ct., was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an accident at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at Ninth and Massachusetts. Lawrence police reported that Smith was a passenger in a car traveling north that had stopped at the intersection and was struck from behind by a car driven by Steven Jansen, 40, 812 Murrow Ct. Jansen was cited for inattentive driving.

District court

Criminal charges filed

Christopher D. McKenzie, 30, 1221 Brook, and Edward A. DeCock, 29, Waverly, were charged Wednesday with a felony count of kidnapping after they allegedly forced a woman out of the car she was riding in and into their car Friday on Douglas County Road 438. DeCock also was charged with a misdemeanor count of battery. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Criminal case proceedings

Richard Steward, 36, 2612 Moundview, recently was sentenced to six to 20 years imprisonment on a felony count of selling cocaine. Following an investigation by local drug enforcement authorities, Steward was charged with two counts of selling cocaine, or in the alternative, possessing cocaine. He pleaded guilty April 27 to one count of selling cocaine.
