INDEPENDENCE, KAN. Services for Helen Grace Inge Connell, 82, Perrysburg, Ohio, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, Kan. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Mrs. Connell died Thursday in a Perrysburg nursing home. She was born July 31, 1907, in Independence.
She attended grade school in Independence, before moving to Lawrence in 1930. She taught art at Lawrence Junior High School from 1930 to 1937, and attended Kansas University for a few semesters during that time.
She was an art instructor at a Nashville, Tenn., school from 1937 to 1970. She moved to Ohio in 1988.
In 1974 she returned to Lawrence for the dedication of the William Inge Memorial Theatre at KU. The theater is named after her brother, a Pulizer Prize-winning playwright, who died in 1973.
Mrs. Connell lived in California for many years and was a member of the Geneva Presbyterian Church of Laguna Hills, Calif.
She married William Bradford Connell on June 6, 1937, in Independence. He preceeded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Potts Funeral Home in Independence.
