Sharon Brehm, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Kansas University, will become dean at a Binghamton, N.Y., university.
Brehm, 45, will be dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and of Harpur College at State University of New York in Binghamton. She begins her new duties July 15.
"I'm real eager to try to be a real dean, so to speak," she said Monday.
Brehm has been at KU since 1975. The psychology professor was director of the honors program and director of the college's graduate division for 3 years.
Michael Young, a professor of philosophy at KU, has been appointed acting associate dean to replace Brehm.
Brehm said Binghamton is the most selective SUNY school at the undergraduate level, but has relatively new graduate programs.
"It's an opportunity to build the graduate side while preserving the undergraduate side," she said.
"It is really great to have been at KU," Brehm said. "This place is very well respected."
"Sometimes we don't realize it because in a sense you never appreciate your home," she said.
