Jim Ellena's Subaru dealership and his used car headquarters will move later this month from their 1116 W. 23rd location to the Lawrence Auto Plaza, 29th and Iowa, Ellena said today.
Ellena said the Subaru dealership will temporarily move to his existing Buick, GMC, Jeep and Eagle dealership at the auto plaza.
Ellena said he will build a 10,000-square-foot building just south of Ellena Honda, 2957 Four Wheel Dr., that will house the Subaru dealership and provide a complete service center, including a tire and lubrication center.
That facility is expected to be completed by the fall, he said.
Ellena, who has owned the 23rd Street property for about four years, said he plans to sell that property and has spoke to several potential buyers.
He said he decided to move the Subaru dealership because he's found that the majority of car buyers come to the Lawrence Auto Plaza to shop because of the high concentration of dealers there.
The local Subaru and Isuzu franchises had been owned by the former Dinwiddie dealership, which was sold last fall to Sonny Hill Motors. Ellena acquired the Subaru dealership about a year ago, and Jim Clark Motors, 2121 W. 29th, acquired the Isuzu dealership.
