A 36-year-old Lawrence man died Saturday morning at the Kansas University Medical Center where he was taken after being injured in an automobile accident late Friday in Lawrence.
James O. Wilson, 36, 2608 Rawhide, died at 11:52 a.m. at the medical center in Kansas City, Kan. He had been in the intensive care unit for several hours, a KUMC nursing supervisor said.
The cause of death was unavailable late Saturday night.
Wilson was moved to the medical center by ambulance at 1:55 a.m. Saturday from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, an LMH nursing supervisor said.
He had been taken to LMH by the Douglas County Ambulance Service after suffering injuries in an accident about 11:30 p.m. Friday near 23rd and Learnard streets, Lawrence police reported.
Police reported that Wilson had a seizure, became incapacitated and lost control of the 1972 Chevrolet he was driving east on 23rd Street. The vehicle swerved left, crossed a median and struck a guardrail on the left side of the road, police reported.
Accident witnesses said Wilson was not speeding or driving recklessly before the accident occurred, according to police reports.
LMH and KUMC nursing supervisors said they would not speculate as to whether Wilson died of complications from injuries he suffered in the accident or if death was related to some previous medical condition.
