Law enforcement report

Burglaries and thefts reported

A 66-year-old Arden, N.C., woman reported to police that someone took her purse after she left it at the Burger King restaurant, 1107 W. Sixth, about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said the purse contained cash and traveler's checks valued together at $2,170.

Police reports

A 34-year-old Eudora man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and possessing stolen property after he struck his girlfriend and threatened a Lawrence man at midnight Sunday in a parking lot in the 800 block of New Hampshire, Lawrence police reported. Officers said the man struck a 26-year-old local woman, then pulled a knife on a 20-year-old Lawrence man who intervened. The Eudora man ran away after asking the man to fight, and no one was seriously injured.

A 21-year-old Lawrence man was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, battery on a police officer and resisting arrest after he fought with his father about 2 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 1500 of Barker Avenue. Although a police report had not been completed, preliminary reports indicated that the man and his father were fighting when officers arrived at the residence. Police found a large kitchen knife lying on the floor near the men. Officers separated the men and arrested the son, who then tried to kick several officers at the scene.

Injury accidents

Police reported that Fred E. Patterson, 23, 1900 W. 31st, was treated for a cut to the forehead and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the car he was driving struck the E-Z Shop convenience store at 955 E. 23rd at 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Police reported that Patterson was driving west in the parking lot and attempted to park his car in front of the building when the brakes failed. The car struck the building, damaging a window and frame. No citations were issued.

Phillip J. Borders, 20, 141 Pinecone Dr., was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a motorcycle accident at 3:25 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Douglas County Roads 458 and 900E, which is about -mile south of Clinton Lake. Sheriff's officers reported that Borders was traveling east at high speeds in the left lane of 458 when an eastbound car pulled into the left lane in front of him. Borders steered his cycle into the ditch and struck an embankment. He was cited for reckless driving.

District court

Criminal charges filed

Ryland I. Lieb, 29, 1424 Tenn., Friday was charged with a misdemeanor count of battery stemming from an incident Thursday in which he allegedly struck his wife at their apartment. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14 for Lieb. The woman reported that Lieb twisted her arm and struck her in the face during an argument. The woman reportedly leaped out a second-story window, injuring her foot, to escape.
