A 15-year-old Scranton girl was killed and a Carbondale teen-ager suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon about nine miles west of Douglas County on U.S. Highway 56.
A Kansas Highway Patrol dispatcher this morning identified the person killed as Amy D. Romine.
The dispatcher said Romine was westbound on U.S. 56 in a station wagon when she swerved to miss an object in the road. She lost control of the vehicle, which went left of the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound car driven by Alicia D. Remington, 18.
The accident occurred about a mile east of the junction of U.S. Highways 56 and 75, which is located near Scranton.
The dispatcher said Romine was flown by helicopter to Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka, where she died about 6 p.m. Remington was taken by ambulance to Stormont-Vail, where she was listed in serious condition today.
