The 'Hawks and the 'Cats are traditional rivals on the basketball court.
But during next Saturday's television broadcast of the Kansas University-Kansas State University basketball game, the head Jayhawk and the head Wildcat will appear together to support one goal.
KU Chancellor Gene Budig and Kansas State President Jon Wefald will appear in a TV spot in support of legislative funding for the third year of the Margin of Excellence for Kansas Board of Regents schools.
KU and Kansas State are giving up their 30-second time slots on the Raycom Sports Network for this one 60-second spot.
"KU and Kansas State compete in sports. But when it comes to education, we're on the same Margin of Excellence team," says Budig in the spot.
Wefald says, "We know you'll support year three of the Margin of Excellence because Kansans finish what they start."
A group of KU and Kansas State students, standing behind Budig and Wefald, voice their support for the Margin as the spot closes.
This is the second time the heads of the two universities have appeared together in a television spot to support the Margin, a three-year program to improve state university faculty salaries.
The game will be broadcast at 3:l0 p.m. on KMBC-TV Channel 9 in Kansas City and WIBW-TV Channel l3 in Topeka.
The spot was produced by the KU Office of University Relations and Kansas State's News Services and was edited at Kansas State's Educational Communications Center.
