The Salvation Army's annual Christmas fund-raising campaign is running 11 percent ahead of last year.

According to a news release from the Salvation Army, bell ringers have collected $45,009 during this holiday season. Although the amount is higher than last year, this represents only 39 percent of the goal of $115,000.

There are 14 kettle locations throughout Lawrence.

More than 360 applications have been received for Christmas assistance, and the Salvation Army expects more applications before Christmas Day.

Anyone wishing to adopt a family for Christmas may call the Salvation Army at 843-4188 and ask for Kelly. Donations also may be sent to the Salvation Army, 946 N.H.
