A Salina woman who was struck by a car after getting off a bus near Kansas University in February 1989 has filed a lawsuit seeking in excess of $50,000 damages against the driver of the car, the Lawrence Bus Co. and the driver of the bus.

In a petition filed in Douglas County District Court, Mary Lisbeth O'Brien, 22, alleges that she suffered permanant injury after she disembarked from a Lawrence Bus Co. bus, crossed the street in front of the bus, and was struck by a car driven by Richard M. McFarlane, Lawrence.

O'Brien alleges that McFarlane was negligent in passing the bus and failing to keep a proper lookout. The suit also alleges that David Swartz, the driver of the bus, was negligent in double-parking in a lane of traffic to unload passengers then motioning to O'Brien that it was safe to cross in front of the bus.

O'Brien is seeking damages for permanent injury, medical expenses and physical and emotional pain.
