A mathematical geologist from Spain will be a visiting research scientist at the Kansas Geological Survey at Kansas University.
Vera Pawlowsky, vice chancellor for academic affairs at the Polytechnical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, will work at the Survey until February 1991. The visiting scientist program, begun in 1966, has brought 22 researchers from 13 nations to the Survey, including many of the world's leading specialists in mathematical geology.
Pawlowsky is the program's first woman scientist. She will work with Survey staff on geostatistical research on compositional data, such as water saturation in petroleum reservoirs.
