A 29-year-old Topeka man died in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday night about 4 miles west of Lawrence, the Doulgas County Sheriff's office reported.
Alan W. Stoddard was pronounced dead at Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's officers said.
Stoddard was driving a 1982 Yamaha motorcycle west about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 40 when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and fell off, according to reports.
Sheriff's officers reported Stoddard was not wearing a helmet.
Dr. Alan Sanders, deputy Douglas County coroner, said today that Stoddard died of head injuries and external abrasions.
Sanders said a blood-alcohol test would be conducted and sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Stoddard was the fourth person killed in automobile accidents in Douglas County this year, a sheriff's department spokesman said.
