A compact disc player and stereo speakers were taken about 11:45 p.m. Friday from a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of West 24th Street, Lawrence police reported. The vehicle's passenger window was broken and the items forcibly removed, causing $500 in damage, police reported. The items are valued at $2,900.
A tray with several rings was taken about 3:35 p.m. Friday from Kizer-Cummings Jewelers, 800 Mass., Lawrence police reported. Two men and two women entered the establishment looking at jewelry, police reported. One of them distracted shop employees while another person took the tray, a police spokesman said. The spokeman said the four people were in their mid-20s to mid-30s. The number of rings and value of the missing items was unknown, the police spokesman said.
Dorothy M. Grammer, 69, 407 Elm, was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after suffering injuries in an accident about 4:45 p.m. Friday at Haskell and 23rd streets. Grammer was stopped in eastbound traffic on 23rd Street in a 1985 Chevrolet when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 1976 Ford, Lawrence police reported. The driver of the Ford, Jeffrey D. Holland, was cited for driving at an improper speed.
