EDMOND, OKLA. Kevin Wentworth won medalist honors for the second straight year and teammate David White finished one stroke back in helping Oklahoma State win its sixth straight Big Eight Conference men's golf title Thursday.
The Cowboys started the day with a 27-shot lead over Oklahoma and finished the 54 holes with a 31-stroke edge. They covered three rounds at the Oak Tree Country Club East Course in 849, while the Sooners came in at 880.
Meanwhile, Kansas, tied for third after the first 36 holes, slipped to fifth place on Thursday. Senior Sean Thayer led the Jayhawks with a 71-72-79222 that was good for eighth place.
It was Oklahoma State's 16th Big Eight title in 17 years under coach Mike Holder. All five Cowboy players finished among the top seven.
``You feel pretty good going to sleep on a 27-stroke lead,'' Holder said. ``But you still have the rest of the tournament to play. Until the hay is in the barn, you never really relax.''
Jeff Lee shot 71 to lead Oklahoma and finish third overall. The best round of the day was posted by Mike Glaesel, who had a 70 and helped Colorado finish third, seven strokes behind Oklahoma.
