— After the first round Thursday, Oklahoma State had virtually clinched its 10th consecutive Big Eight women's tennis title.

Oklahoma State netters won all nine of their first-round matches and needed only one second-round doubles win today to take home the title.

The race for second, however, is a tight one. Oklahoma had a slim lead over Nebraska with 82 points to the Huskers' 77. Kansas was fourth with 72 followed by Colorado 55, Kansas State 54, Iowa State 30 and Missouri 10.

Rain forced Thursday's competition indoors and matches were held at four different sites.

Kansas won five of its six first-round singles matches, led by Eveline Hamers at No. 1 who defeated Kim Dempsey of Iowa State, 6-1, 6-2. However, the Jayhawks won only one of three first-round doubles matches.
