A 29-year-old Lawrence man remained hospitalized today after suffering burns in an industrial accident Thursday afternoon.
Mitch Copeland, an employee of W.A. Dunbar and Son Trucking and Excavating Inc., was listed in fair condition today at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., with burns to one of his hands.
A spokesman at the Dunbar Asphalt plant near 31st and Haskell today said Copeland was turning on electrical power to a machine about 2 p.m. Thursday when the power box containing the switch shorted out and burst into flames.
Copeland was taken by Douglas County ambulance personnel to Lawrence Memorial Hospital then transferred to the KUMC burn unit.
