A memorial service for Esther Maria Chestnut, 62, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Virgil Brady officiating. Mrs. Chestnut died April 9 at Valleyview Care Home after a long illness.
The body was cremated.
She was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Pittsburg and had lived in Lawrence sinced 1951, moving here from Kansas City, Kan.
She was a 1948 Kansas University graduate with a bachelor's degree in bacteriology and medical technology. Before her illness, she worked for the university as a medical technician at Watkins Memorial Health Center and at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Chestnut married Bill Chestnut on Nov. 26, 1951, in Lawrence. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Calvin and Robert, both of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Jane Atkinson, Washington. D.C., and Lucinda Chestnut of the home; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Local Relief Fund of the Alzheimer's Family Support Group, in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
