Tonganoxie The Tonganoxie School Board on Thursday selected a new superintendent, but is withholding the man's name until he formally resigns his current job and the board formally votes to approve his contract.
Gail Drake, clerk of the board, said this morning that the board chose one of its two finalists to replace the current superintendent, who is resigning to take another superintendent's job near Topeka.
However, the board has requested that the name of the new superintendent not be made public until he has a chance to inform his school board tonight of his plans. The board also has protected the man's name by waiting until its next regular meeting on Monday to approve an agreement between two.
Mrs. Drake said the successful finalist now is a superintendent in a school district within the Journal-World coverage area. She said that district's board members could learn of his intent to leave from the newspaper instead of from him if his name was not withheld.
The man chosen during Thursday night's special meeting will replace current superintendent Stephen McClure, who resigned in February to become the superintendent of the Shawnee Heights school district in suburban east Topeka.
McClure will leave the Tonganoxie district June 30 and will begin his new job July 1.
