Wellsville The city of Wellsville is close to replacing a full-time police officer who resigned from the police force last month.
City Clerk Donna Reed said this morning that the city council during its regular meeting Wednesday night voted to fill the position at its next regular meeting April 26.
Norman Vissonnette quit the Wellsville Police Department on March 6 to take a similar position with the Gardner Police Department, Reed said. The council began accepting applications shortly after Vissonnette quit. The deadline to apply was earlier this month.
City council members will review applications and screen candidates from now until they announce the hiring of the new officer at its next meeting, Reed said.
The salary for the position is $15,000, she said.
When the city's police department is fully staffed, it has three full-time police officers, she said.
In in another matter Wednesday, the council voted to begin advertising for someone to manage the city swimming pool, which is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, May 26. The council has not set a deadline for hiring the pool manager.
