Burglaries and thefts reported

A stereo, several compact discs and other miscellaneous items valued at $1,221 were taken about 1:15 a.m. Sunday from a vehicle parked in the 700 block of New Hampshire, Lawrence police reported today.

Police reports

A 26-year-old Lawrence woman was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after she reportedly was beaten by her husband at 4:20 p.m. Saturday outside their mobile home in the 1900 block of West 31st Street. Lawrence police reported that the woman and her husband, 26, were arguing when he began hitting and kicking her. The woman managed to get away and walked to the area of 31st and Iowa streets, where a passerby noticed that she appeared "disoriented" and called police. The man was arrested on charges of battery and making terroristic threats.

A 29-year-old Lawrence man reported that someone threw a couch through the front door of his residence in the 1200 block of Tennessee about 5:35 p.m. Saturday. Damage was estimated at $50. Police today said they are seeking three suspects.

A 33-year-old Lawrence woman reported to police Friday that her 9-year-old son was severely beaten by a classmate Tuesday at Pinckney School, 810 W. Sixth. The woman told officers that a Eudora doctor told her the boy suffered a concussion in the attack. The boy, police said, was grabbed and thrown to the ground by his classmate, who then rammed the victim's head into the ground. The boy's mother told officers that she did not want to file charges, but reported the incident so that it would remain on record at the police department.

Two 19-year-old men, one from Lawrence and one from Kansas City, Kan., were arrested at 1:56 p.m. Sunday at Kansas University, according to KU police. The Lawrence man was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of burglary tools, a felony. His bond has not been set. The Kansas City man was arrested on a felony charge of possession of burglary tools. His bond was set at $1,000. Both men remain in the Douglas County Jail.

Injury accidents

Kelly R. Potter, 21, 2021 W. 27th, and a passenger in his car, Stacy L. Easum, 19, also of 2021 W. 27th, were treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an accident at 9:07 p.m. Saturday at 23rd and Alabama streets. Lawrence police reported that Potter was driving east on 23rd when his car collided with a westbound car driven by Elijah J. Jackson, 38, 2704 Bonanza, that was attempting to make a left turn onto Alabama. Jackson was cited for making an improper left turn and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He is scheduled to appear April 18 in Lawrence Municipal Court.

Scott Stephens, 24, 1317 Ky., was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an accident at 1:10 p.m. Sunday on 23rd Street west of Louisiana Street. Police reported that Stephens was westbound on 23rd when his car was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Julia M. Mahaffey, 20, 1411 W. Seventh. The blow knocked Stephens' car into another westbound vehicle driven by Michael D. Price, 38, St. Louis, Mo. Mahaffey was cited for inattentive driving.

Leah J. D'Ercole, Lawrence, was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an accident at 12:18 p.m. Saturday at 15th Street and Engel Road, according to Kansas University Police reports. D'Ercole was westbound on 15th street and pulling away from a stop sign when her car collided with a car driven by Elisa D. Moya, Denver, according to reports. No other information was available.
