Topeka Paul Davis fired one of the best rounds in recent Lawrence High golf history, carding an even-par 69 in winning the Shawnee Heights golf invitational Friday at Lake Shawnee.
Davis, a senior, finished one stroke ahead of Blue Valley's Chris Reecht, who fired a 70.
"It's the first time I've ever had anyone shoot even par," said Commons, now in his 15th year at LHS coach. "He was very consistent being on the greens in regulation. He had a lot of pars and one or two birdies."
Davis won the meet on the final hole, carding a par to Reecht's bogey.
As a team, host Shawnee Heights won with 301 strokes. LHS was second in the seven-team meet with 311.
The Lions will host a four-team tourney Monday at Lawrence Country Club. Competitors will be SM East, SM South and SM West.
Team scores: Shawnee Heights 301, Lawrence 311, Emporia 315, Manhattan 320, Olathe South 322, Shawnee Mission West 330, Blue Valley 338.
