Douglas County officials have learned that current laws don't have the subject of nude swimming at Clinton Lake covered.
County commissioners will try to change that later this month when they consider a resolution prohibiting nudity at Clinton Lake.
Commissioners today scheduled a public hearing for 7:15 p.m. April 11 on a proposed resolution that would set a fine of up to $25 for nudity at either swimming or park facilities at Clinton.
County Administrator Chris McKenzie said local officials had always assumed there were regulations prohibiting nudity at the lake southwest of Lawrence.
But the loophole was discovered last fall, when Douglas County Sheriff Loren Anderson was approached by some people who said they were planning to do some nude swimming at Clinton Lake, McKenzie said.
Anderson told the would-be skinny dippers that they couldn't swim nude at Clinton Lake, but later learned there were no regulations on the books, McKenzie said.
The county does have regulations prohibiting nude swimming or sunbathing at Lone Star Lake, he said.
