Washington Marynell Reece of Scandia, Kan., has been appointed to a national board that advises an office in the Education Department on postsecondary education, it was announced today.
Mrs. Reece, a former national committeewoman for the Republican Party, will serve on the 15-member board for the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, an office in the department that makes grants to colleges and universities to encourage innovation and reform.
Kansas Sens. Nancy Kassebaum and Bob Dole, both Republicans, announced the appointment of Mrs. Reece by Education Secretary Lauro Cavazos.
Kassebaum, the senior Republican on the Senate education subcommittee, said Mrs. Reece ``brings intelligence, common sense and enthusiasm to every task she undertakes.''
