Services for Mildred Wright, 82, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor with the Rev. Ron Goodman officiating. Cremation is planned, and private inurnment will be in Elk City Cemetery.

Mrs. Wright died Saturday at a local retirement home.

She was born April 13, 1907, in Elk City.

Mrs. Wright, who was a teacher for several years, grew up in Elk City and attended Elk City schools. She graduated from Elk City High School in 1924.

In 1928, she graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Pittsburg State Teachers College. She moved from Wichita to Lawrence in 1956.

Mrs. Wright was a member of the First Christian Church of Lawrence.

She married Harold Wright on Aug. 23, 1932, in Oklahoma. Mr. Wright died March 28, 1981.

Survivors include two nieces, Betty Crocker of Caney and Ann Stubblefield of Kansas City, Kan.


Services for Alice Catherine Cox, 104, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hesper Friends Church southeast of Eudora with the Rev. Jerry Mercer officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Center Cemetery in Johnson County.

Mrs. Cox died Sunday at an Olathe nursing home.

Mrs. Cox was born Sept. 23, 1885, in Johnson County. She grew up in the Hesper community southeast of Eudora and attended Hesper Academy. In 1913, she graduated from Friends University in Wichita. She was a teacher for several years.

She married Mahlen H. Cox in 1925 at Hesper. He died March 10, 1957. She was married to Charles Cox in 1963 at Baldwin. He died Aug. 18, 1972.

Survivors include two grandnieces, Shirley Flory of Baldwin and Alice Eisele of Lawrence.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Thursday to 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey Funeral Home and an hour before service time at the church.
