Brian T. Gibler, 17, Lawrence, was listed in fair condition today at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was injured early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident near Ottawa.
John Bullock, 38, Topeka was listed in fair condition today at KUMC with injuries he suffered in a one-car accident Oct. 2 near the West Lawrence Interchange of the Kansas Turnpike. A passenger, Valerie A. Slater, 31, Topeka, was killed in the accident.
Criminal case proceedings
Michael E. Fisher, 19, no address listed, was sentenced Friday to one to five years imprisonment on a felony count of forgery and one to five years on a felony count of burglary. Fisher was charged Aug. 29 with six counts of forgery and the burglary count after he allegedly forged a number of checks belonging to a local resident and broke into a local residence between Aug. 3 and Aug. 9. He pleaded guilty Sept. 15 to one of the forgery counts and the burglary count.
Barry Brandon, 19, Fullerton, Calif., Thursday waived formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty to a felony count of theft and a misdemeanor count of attempting to elude a law officer. Brandon is charged with taking an automobile June 7 at a local convenience store. A hearing at which a trial may be set was scheduled for Nov. 2.
Kristi L. Akin, 24, 838 La., was sentenced Thursday to one to five years imprisonment on an amended felony count of attempting to aid and abet the delivery of cocaine. She also was sentenced to six months in the Douglas County Jail on a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana. Akin pleaded guilty Sept. 12 to the amended charges, which stem from her arrest in April. Akin originally was charged April 14 with two felony counts of possessing cocaine and a misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana.
