A Perry infant and a 24-year-old Lawrence man remained hospitalized this morning after a two-vehicle accident east of Perry that killed the baby's parents.

Two-month-old Derek Huett was listed in fair condition with a head injury this morning at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. The infant's condition was upgraded from serious early Monday morning.

Kevin Coleman, 24, Lawrence, remained in serious condition this morning with multiple fractures at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka.

The infant's parents, both of Perry, died from injuries they received in the accident. Darrin L. Huett, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lucinda "Cindy" May Drain Huett, 20, died Sunday at Stormont-Vail.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred at 6:40 p.m. Saturday about one mile east of Perry on U.S. Highway 24.

Reports indicate that a westbound pickup driven by Lucinda Huett drove off the right-hand side of the road then veered back across the center line and collided head-on with the Coleman vehicle, which was headed east.

Double services for the Huetts will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the American Legion building in Perry. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the American Legion building in Perry, where the family will meet friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Derek Huett Education Fund in care of Hampton-Barrett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa or Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
