Eudora Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 will be collecting bags of canned and non-perishable goods from residents Saturday morning.
Amye Scott, troop treasurer, said residents donating food should leave their donations hanging from their front door knobs in plastic bags the Boy Scouts distributed Saturday.
Troop members will begin collecting the food about 9 a.m. Residents should call Scott in Eudora if their donations have not been picked up by noon, she said.
Some of the food collected will be given to the Eudora Ministerial Alliance food pantry and some probably will go to fill boxes for the needy through the Mayor's Christmas Fund, Scott said. Each year, the Eudora City Council solicits donations of food and money and distributes food to local families, she said.
The troop collected about 1,500 cans of food last year and hopes to surpass that mark this year because of the importance of the holiday season.
"This is just the time of year when people need help," Scott said.
