— Services for William H. Muchnic, 72, San Diego, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison.

Mr. Muchnic died Saturday at a hospital in La Jolla, Calif.

He served on the advisory committee of Kansas University School of Engineering, was chairman of the finance committee of the KU Endowment Association and was a trustee of the Midwest Research Institute and Benedictine College.

Mr. Muchnic was a member of the River Club and the Kansas City Club. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from KU in 1939 and was a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Atchison.

Mr. Muchnic was born in Atchison and moved to San Diego in 1971.

He was a former president of the Locomotive Finished Materials Co. in Atchison. He joined the company in 1946 and was its president from 1952 to 1958. Mr. Muchnic was named a vice president of the Rockwell Manufacturing Co. in 1958 and served on the board of directors of Rockwell International from 1972 to 1983.

He was president of the Valley Co. Inc., a real estate and securities investment company, for the last 31 years. He had been chairman of the Prospect Center Corp. since 1964.

Mr. Muchnic was a former directer of the Steel Founders Society of America, the chamber of commerce, the United Fund and the YMCA in Atchison. He was past chairman of the Kansas Economic Development Commission and served on the boards of directors of the Kansas Power & Light Co., the Exchange National Bank of Atchison and the Atchison Hospital Assn.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of the home; a son, Hank, Atchison; a daughter, Nan Muchnic, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Elizabeth M. Eliker, St. Michaels, Md.; and a grandson.

The family suggests memorials to the Atchison Public Library or to the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation, 10901 N. Torrey Pines Rd., La Jolla, Calif. 92037.

Friends may call at the Muchnic Art Gallery in Atchison after the services.
