Apparently, construction of the Lawrence Riverfront Plaza on the banks of the Kansas River hasn't deterred bald eagles from returning to winter there.
City hall employees and other Lawrence residents have spotted several eagles, flying from tree to tree on the Kansas River banks.
"They've been around for the past couple days, at least," said Lisa Prather, a secretary in the department of parks and recreation. "Fred (DeVictor) had his binoculars out a couple days ago."
The eagles winter in Lawrence because the Bowersock Dam keeps a portion of the river from freezing and the birds can fish there.
