A two-car accident Sunday morning on the Kansas Turnpike landed a driver in Lawrence Memorial Hospital and his passenger in the Kansas University Medical Center for treatment. Michael D. Gomberg, 19, a Kansas University student from Des Plaines, Ill., suffered a broken leg and lacerations, and Steven R. Hudson, 19, a KU student from Omaha, Neb., suffered a broken leg, chest injuries and lacerations in the accident, according to a KTA dispatcher. Gomberg was driving and Hudson was a passenger in a 1984 Nissan that at 4:02 a.m. Sunday struck a car parked on the turnpike shoulder. Glenn P. Burke, 28, Kansas City, Mo., had pulled his car onto the shoulder and had fallen asleep, the dispatcher said. This morning, Gomberg was in fair condition at LMH, and Hudson was in fair condition at KUMC. Burke told authorities he would seek medical assistance for cuts he suffered in the accident.
A 14-year-old Lawrence boy was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after he was involved in a one-vehicle accident at 3:40 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Rockledge. Police reports said Raymond A. Lee, 14, 240 Deerfield, was traveling south on Rockledge when the moped he was driving apparently struck a street sign. He was cited for inattentive driving and violating driver's license restrictions, police reports said.
A 22-year-old Lawrence man was listed in fair condition today at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following a car-motorcycle accident at 8:35 p.m. Friday at 22nd and Rhode Island streets. According to police reports, Timothy R. Crawford, 22, 900 Ala., was traveling south on Rhode Island when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by William A. Cleaver Jr., 18, Overland Park. Crawford was cited for failure to yield right of way, police reports said.
