— Preliminary hearings for two Jefferson County men charged with possession of marijuana have been postponed indefinitely, according to a representative in the Jefferson County attorney's office.

The hearings for David L. Anderson Jr., 26, Winchester, and John L. Hewitt Jr., 28, rural Valley Falls, were to be conducted Thursday afternoon. A new date has been set for the hearings, which are conducted to determine if sufficient evidence exists to order a suspect to stand trial.

The men were arrested Oct. 24 and charged with one count each of possession of marijuana. The charges resulted from an investigation into the Oct. 21 shooting death of Randall Lane Malbrough, 31, Oskaloosa.

Anderson and Hewitt were with Gale W. Hewitt, 26, rural Valley Falls, the night Malbrough was killed. Gale Hewitt has been charged with one count each of first-degree murder for Malbrough's death, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault for allegedly firing at William J. Tobin IV the night Malbrough died.

He was ordered last week to stand trial in the shooting after a four-day preliminary hearing.

John Hewitt and Anderson are free on $2,500 bond. Gale Hewitt was released on $150,000 bond.
