Lecompton The city of Lecompton is going to use its excess money to fix at least one road in town.
City Clerk Susie Hackathorn said the council Monday night moved $5,000 in excess funds from the city's general fund to its special highway fund and plans to use the money toward road improvements.
The council did not discuss any one road in particular, but Mrs. Hackathorn said Whitfield Road in the western part of the city is in desperate need of repair. The road leads to Lecompton Elementary School and handles a lot of traffic, she said.
Mrs. Hackathorn said the road is one of the main streets in town and is crumbling from the traffic.
State law allows the city to move the money from one fund to another for road improvements, she said.
In other business, the council approved a beer license for Kroeger Country Store.
