EUDORA PHONE SERVICE TO IMPROVE

— Eudora residents should notice an improvement in their telephone service Saturday morning.

Dave Nichols, local Southwestern Bell community relations manager, said this morning that his company plans to transfer telephone calls made in Eudora from an existing mechanical switch to a state-of-the-art digital switch.

The switch is to occur about 1 a.m. Saturday.

Nichols said the company has conducted test calls through the new switch to ensure that it will be ready to handle the telephone calls when it goes on line.

Customers should notice an improvement in the transmission quality and quicker call connections, he said.

The new switch also will offer Eudora customers phone service options such as custom calling services, one-plus dialing to the long distance carrier of their choice and central office-based communications systems.

Custom calling features include call waiting, call forwarding, speed dialing and three-way calling.

The custom calling features will be offered to the customers beginning Dec. 9, but a choice of long distance carriers will come later. The new switch has been added to Eudora telephone services because of forecasted growth in the area and because of a need to upgrade the old equipment that now serves the city, Nichols said.
