Edward Hartwell

Lt. Col. Edward C. Hartwell, Ret., 83, of Summerfield passed away Friday, August 17, 2018. Col. Hartwell was born July 5, 1935 in Manchester Center, VT to Ira and Dorothy (Edgerton) Hartwell. He had served for 30 years in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne and Infantry Divisions. During his career, Ed was an instructor with the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After retiring he worked as a contractor for the Army, running computerized war game simulations. He moved from Kansas to Port St. Lucie, FL in 1998 and then to The Villages, FL in 2004. Ed was a member of New Covenant United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, golfing, baseball and watching televised sports. Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Sherry; children, Dotti Shuck (Doug), Ed Hartwell, Jr (Sherri), Christine Hartwell-Jerby (Mark), Kim Arnett (Bob), Doug Hartwell (Barbie), Karen Beagle (Bill), Christine White (Todd) and Kathy Van Riper (Eric); brother, John Hartwell (Jean); sister-in-law, Joanne Hartwell; 17 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Ira Hartwell. Ed’s life will be celebrated 2:00pm, Saturday, August 25, 2018 in the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 3470 Woodbridge Dr, The Villages.
