Constance Robinson

Memorial Services for Constance Mock Robinson, 96, Lawrence, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018 at First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery.

Mrs. Robinson died Friday, August 3, 2018.

She was born December 21, 1921, in Winston Salem, North Carolina, the daughter of Henry Bascom Mock and Ethel Spaugh Mock. During her childhood the family moved to Jacksonville, Alabama, where she resided until her marriage on March 18, 1944.

Mrs. Robinson graduated from Jacksonville State University with additional study at the University of Alabama and the University of Kansas. A teacher at the junior high level, she was employed in the public schools of Alabama, Virginia, and Lawrence, Kansas.

In addition to being a wife, parent and teacher, Mrs. Robinson devoted much time to service to the community and to the University of Kansas. She was a member and chairperson of the Friends of the Spencer Art Museum, the Board of the K. U. Anthropology Museum, and present of the K.U. Women’s Club. She has also served as chair of the Resident Council of Brandon Woods and of Lawrence Meals on Wheels in its early years. She was on a number of committees of the First United Methodist Church and held several offices in her chapter of P.E. O. and Zodiac Club. She also served as assistant leader of Girl Scouts for a number of years. She has been an active participant in providing food for LINK and or the Methodist Bishop’s Roundup for Hunger.

She married Walter Stitt Robinson on March 18, 1944. He died in June, 2014.

Survivors include a daughter, Barry Robinson Cook and her husband Robert Cook of Leawood, KS; a son, Walter Lee Robinson, and grandson Trevor Lee Robinson of Rifle, Colorado.

The family will greet friends following the ceremony in Brady Hall at the Church.

The family suggest memorials to The Visiting Nurses Association or First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
