TESSA REUBER – FEATURED ARTIST, SMALL GALLERY
I was raised in the Midwest, surrounded by the endless expanse that became my playground…and my first studio. As a child I understood & appreciated the archaic charm of mixing an infinite variety of materials exactly as the art dictated; barriers, boundaries & rules didn’t apply. In my mind’s eye, the possibilities of my pursuit were indeed endless.
The exploration of nostalgic environments has me interested in adding, intertwining, and layering materials to create forms that interact with one other. Each layer builds a relationship between the techniques used and the form that develops. There is a spark of energy and mobility as layers come together, like a bird taking flight for the first time. I am excited about the act of responding to materials in the moment they are being created.
After studying textiles at the Kansas City Art Institute for two years, I had the opportunity to live abroad in Germany. I became interested in engraving and became the manager of an engraving department at Ramstein Air Force Base. In December, 2012 I’ll graduate with a BFA in Textiles at the University of Kansas.
I’m on a dreamlike path mining the ancient living tradition of society’s most sophisticated cultures…
